Sh. Ahmed Bin Eid Al Thani, Head of QFIU, highlighted during the MOU signing that the relationship between the State of Qatar and the Republic of the Philippines is characterized by convergence of views on many international issues and common interests. The visit of His Highness, the Father, Emir/ Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani to the Philippines on 10 April 2012 was a foundation stone for the consolidation of relations between both countries. Almost a decade after that visit, Philippine-Qatari relations is further strengthened by signing this MOU between the QFIU and AMLC.

Qatar and the Philippines share common interest in countering illicit financial activity, terrorism, and organized crime that present a serious threat to its people, businesses, and communities. The financial intelligence that FIUs collect and share is critical to these efforts. In signing the MOU, QFIU and the AMLC have committed to strengthening their information sharing capabilities to increase effectiveness in this field and meet the many challenges ahead.
